Milwaukee Art Museum Celebration of the Arts on the Lake Front

The 46th Annual Lakefront Festival of Arts takes place June 20-22, 2008 on the shores of Lake Michigan on the grounds of the Milwaukee Art Museum in Wisconsin.

The grounds of the Milwaukee Art Museum lie on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, and the beautiful lake front makes a stunning backdrop the artist displays and entertainment on the grounds during the festival. The lakefront grounds are on a grassy hill. Lake breezes cool the skin on the warm summer days. Spectators enjoy the chance to stroll the grounds in a beautiful setting with artworks, entertainment and Lake Michigan. The Festival of Arts features artists and their works, children's activities, a children's stage of entertainment and a main stage with musical guests.

Art at the Lakefront Festival of the Arts

The stars of the Lakefront Festival of the Arts are the artists, who display and sell their artworks. Artist Demonstrations are held outside the Sculpture Garden; these feature painting, ceramics, fiber and mixed media art. Featured artists include Shelby Keefe; Art Bartkowiak; Bruce Johnson; Chris Rom and Geoff Buddie, and Barbara and Harris Fellman.

Approximately 175 artists display their artwork at the Lakefront festival. Artist categories include: ceramics, sculpture, fiber wearable, digital, painting, mixed media 3D, printmaking, fiber non-wearable, glass, wood, jewelry, metal, mixed media 1D, drawing pastels and photography.

Music on the Main Festival Stage

  • Friday, June 20. Friday's afternoon entertainment starts at 10:30 pm, with The International Quartet playing a rich blend of French, Italian and Latin Jazz;. At 3:30 pm, Crazy Man's Basement stakes the stage. The evening performance begins at 5:30 pm with Ziji, a Brazilian and contemporary jazz group.
  • Saturday, June 21. The entertainment begins at 11 am with the Kal Bergendahl Project. At 1:30 pm the Scott Napoli Quartet takes the stage. The late afternoon performance features Nabori, with traditional salsa music.
  • Sunday, June 22: At 10 am the Ryan McIntyre Band starts the day of music. T-Man's Blues Project is a guitar driven blues band that takes the stage at 1:00 pm. Knock on Wood captures the essence of 1970's rock band starting at 3:30 pm.

Children's Activities - Cartoon Drawings

Children can be entertained by animation expert Tim Decker. The Ex-Disney artist invites children to draw cartoons along with him.

Children's Stage

  • Entertainment Friday: the children's entertainment is from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Friday's entertainment features Bab Kahn with storytelling and comedy. Robbie Clement Family brings family entertainment.
  • Saturday and Sunday the Children's Stage lineup in the same both days. Children's entertainment takes place 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. At 1:00 pm Danceworks Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap features students performing cha-cha, fox trot, swing and tap dance. At 3:00 pm The Village Playhouse of Wauwatosa present "A Midsummer Night's Dream.

General Festival Information

Tickets at the gate are $8 on Friday and $10 on Saturday and Sunday. Festival parking will be available off of Lagoon Drive for $5. A tram will run continuously from the parking area to the front of the museum.

Food vendors at the art festival include Aladdin, Koepsell's Popcorn, Ultimate Confections, Milwaukee Art Museum Cafe, Major Goolsby's and The Coffee Guys.

The 46th Annual Milwaukee Art Museum Lakefront Festival of Arts takes place Friday, June 20 from 12 pm to 8 pm; Saturday, June 21 from 10 am to 7 pm; Sunday, June 22 from 10 am to 5 pm. The festival is held at the Milwaukee Art Museum grounds on the shore of Lake Michigan. The Milwaukee Art Museum grounds are north of the famed Summerfest Grounds on the lake front.

While in Milwaukee for the weekend, consider visiting Polish Fest on the Summer Fest grounds on the MIlwaukee lake front. Polish Fest takes place on the same weekend as the Lakefront Festival of the Arts. There are many fine Hotels in Downtown Milwaukee, WI for a weekend stay.
