Many fragrance and cosmetic companies use the names of celebrities to sell their products. From J. Lo to Jay-Z, which celebrities lend their names to fragrances?
Many celebrities have lent their name to a fragrance, perfume or cosmetic line. Celebrities are brand names, so by adding their name to an already existing perfume company such as Revlon, Giorgio Armani and Tommy Hilfiger, they are creating a co-branded product. The more famous a celebrity, the more fragrance they will sell. With the idea of all press as good press, the celebrity gets to promote themselves and sell their name simultaneously. Celebrity Co-BrandingThe trend of naming fragrances for the famous started in the early nineties. Back then the only fragrances available to younger women were Love's Baby Soft and Charlie. (Unless one was tempted to wear grandma's Wind Song.) In a successful attempt to get younger women to the perfume and makeup counter, fragrance companies came up with the brilliant idea of using celebrities to endorse, advertise and name their products. Ironically, many celebrities don't seem to wear their own fragrances, and their involvement in the development and creation of the perfumes may be little or none. It doesn't matter. Marketing is all about creating desirability and the attraction of these celebrity perfumes is the common consumer having a seemingly luxurious item that has the name of a celebrity whom they admire or want to be like.
