Less jam band and more rocking seems to be the musical theme at the 2008 All Good Festival in West Virginia featuring Grace Potter, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

Rock the Weekend and Camp Out

A trend in the last ten to fifteen years is music festivals that last all weekend and feature a variety of music performances from an eclectic mix of bands that include bluegrass, rock and jam bands. The All Good Festival located in central West Virginia is one such music festival. Only 30 days remain before one of the best-kept secret music festivals begins in wild and wonderful West Virginia. The 2007 All Good Festival was totally hot, and boasted nonstop music and fun for several days. Campers on the cool mountain should be prepared for a rocking, outdoor musical event.

The All Good Music Festival 2008

Is the 2008 All Good Music Festival going to be even better than last year? It appears so. This years’ All Good Festival 2008 line-up features former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh & Friends, Widespread Panic, the southern rock of Government Mule, Michael Franti & Spearhead and blues musicians Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi. The highlight of last year’s All Good Music Festival, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are back to rock Marvin’s Mountain.

What Bands Will Be at the Music Festival?

Also included this year are the Avett Brothers. These cute boys from North Carolina are sure to rock the mountain and bring excitement, as they also travel with their own girl groupies who are dedicated to these talented and handsome rockers who bring a southern roots sound.

Think of All Good as a musical buffet of sorts serving up hot plates of jazz, blues, bluegrass, southern rock and everything in between. Also included are Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Keller Williams, Mike Gordon, Dark Star Orchestra, Railroad Earth, Tea Leaf Green, The Bridge, SOJA, Brazillian Girls, Perpetual Groove, Lettuce, Hot Buttered Rum, Bassnectar, Eric Lindell, RAQ, Bonerama, The Wood Brothers, and the Baltimore band that won’t fade away, The All Mighty Senators.

What's Good About All Good?

What makes the All Good Music Festival unique and worth attending? The backdrop of the lush, green, mountain state of West Virginia is the most spectacular part of this folksy and fun music festival. Low humidity and cool temperatures are the summertime gift of this isolated mountaintop located in the Allegheny Mountains. Be prepared to walk, be prepared for excellent and colorful people watching. There is a tented food court to provide international and healthy nourishment, as well as a constant supply of excellent beer. The music can be a little too meandering and jam-bandy, but it looks like the musical lineup in 2008 is promising to be more hard rocking and bluesy, what with the addition of Government Mule, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi.

Other cool features of the All Good Music Festival? You can get as close to the stage as you would like. While there are thousands of people here, the site is large enough to accommodate without ever feeling like you are crowded. There are also alternative stages where concert goers can experience their favorite musical artists in a more intimate setting. There is a feeling at All Good of a closer connection between the music and the audience.

Helpful Tips For First Time All Good Festival Goers

There are no hotels near this remote mountaintop location so make sure you pack all the things you would need for a weekend long camping trip. If you never got to a Grateful Dead concert this is your chance to relive colorful hippie days that try to hold on to that Woodstock state of mind. While thousands will attend the festival this year, this event is friendly and fun with memorable music moments to keep us going until the All Good Festival returns next year.
